Napoli’s draw against Roma had a taste of defeat for Zarri

A few days ago Napoli faced off with As.Roma for a Serie A match and the game concluded in a goal-less draw as neither team managed to score a single goal and at the end of it all, both sides had to settle with 1 point each.

However, even though the scoreboard was displaying after 90 minutes had passed, it was clear that 1 team deserved to have won the game and it was the home team, Napoli. When the match reached it’s end, statistics showed that Napoli had launched a total of 12 shots with 60% possession of the ball meanwhile As.Roma could only muster 4 shots and none of them were on target.
As.Roma managed to not concede a single goal and they went home with 1 point as well did Napoli but Maurizio Zarri was not satisfied with the result as the coach of Napoli had a few things to say which he made it clear after the game reached it’s end.

“It was one-way traffic, as we were the only team playing football. Roma did better than usual defensively, we had many opportunities that we wasted in front of goal. We didn’t make the most of a pretty obvious supremacy throughout the match. If this was a boxing match, Roma’s corner would’ve thrown in the towel.”

Juventus dominated the previous season of the Italian League as they clinched the Serie A title with a total of 87 points and only lost 3 times in the entire campaign. No other club really stood a chance of competing against the team of MassimilianoAllegri but things are taking a turn in this season as there are a number of clubs that have a realistic chance of becoming the new champions of Italy and Napoli is one of them.

One of the biggest influences and reasons of why Napoli has turned into such a dominant force has been Gonzalo Higuain, the Argentinean is the top goal-scorer of Serie A and has managed to score 14 goals in 16 appearances but he wasn’t able to find the back of the net against As.Roma.

Napoli still managed to collect 1 point from this game but it left Maurizio Zarri and his players with a taste of defeat as they needed and wanted more points in order to continue their charge for the top spot of the Serie A and in this season which is being so tightly contested, it might make a huge difference as the season progresses further.

FOCUS ON SERIE A

Napoli old-boy Fabio Cannavaro insists that the club should enjoy the Champions League games as a bit of fun, and concentrate on doing well in Serie A.

Its the first season in Napoli’s history that they have competed in the Champions League, and the pressure is clearly taking its toll. Whilst coach Mazzari has tried to shuffle his team around after the intense European nights, the Partenopei have nearly always struggled to get results in the game that follows.

Whilst coach Mazzari has tried to shuffle his team around after the intense European nights, the Partenopei have nearly always struggled to get results in the game that follows.

Cannavaro says that europe takes a lot out of players, and that Napoli would be better placed to focus on doing well in the Scudetto to ensure they are in the Champions League next year, when they should also have a bigger squad.

Speaking to Italian radio, Fabo said “It’s a great Napoli side that is fighting for the league at the moment, and when they are on form they are one of the most exciting teams around! The ‘problem’ with Napoli, if we can really call it a problem, is with the Champions League. playing in it robs you of all your energy, both physical and psychological, so we were bound to suffer in our first season.”

“The Champions League is a great adventure, but if they put their minds to it, Napoli could win the Scudetto this season.”
