CAVANI WILL STAY

Napoli striker Edinson Cavani has said that he will not leave the club in the summer even if they failed to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Edinson Cavani has been linked with a move away from Napoli all through the season, and the rumours have certainly not been helped by the good performances of the striker in the Champions League this season. He almost helped Napoli get past Chelsea in the last 16 of the Champions League, while he is the second top scorer in the division with 19 league goals to his credit.

A few weeks ago, the Napoli president said that it would take a lot of money for Edinson Cavani to be bought from the club. He said that a figure in the region of € 100 million will be enough to persuade Napoli to sell their star striker. However, it is widely expected that Cavani will hand in a transfer request if Napoli try to block any move in the summer. Chelsea and Manchester City are expected to be the top clubs interested in the striker, while the likes of Tottenham have also shown interest. Lazio are currently in the third position and they have a three-point advantage over Napoli, which means that Napoli will be unable to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

“My future does not depend at all on qualifying for the Champions League or not. I do not think about it. I will only say that I am happy here. I’m fine. My son was born in this city and the warmth of the people is unique. Sooner or later there will come a time [to leave], but for now I’m focused only on Napoli. The Champions League was a unique experience and we want to play in it again,” he told Radio Marta.

CAVANI BANNED FOR THREE MATCHES

Edinson Cavani has scored Napoli’s 1000th goal and he has been banned for his bad celebration. All it took him were 25 matches to have his name carved into the annals of the club. When he scored a penalty against Roma, Edinson Cavani had hit Napoli’s 1,000th away goal. It was a present he had given himself to celebrate his 24th birthday on St Valentine’s Day. The date is only of interest to those who love statistics, because the Uruguayan’s contribution to the club is impossible to calculate. He is the new king of Naples, undisputed idol of the supporters. His talent has brought the joy of seeing the club up there, challenging for the title in the name of the whole city. The night in the Olimpico Stadium just showed us how good he really is and how devastating he can be in the last 16 metres. He is well and truly a phenomenon and half the world is envious of Aurelio De Laurentiis. But Cavani’s day of glory was clouded over by the Lavezzi’s 3-match ban for spitting at Rosi on Saturday in Rome. The club is set to appeal but it’s a certainty that the Pocho will miss the big match against AC Milan coming up at the Meazza Stadium soon.

CAVANI CHOSES NAPOLI OVER INTER

New Napoli signing Edinson Cavani has revealed how he had turned down an offer to join Inter Milan to join Napoli. The Uruguay international credits the fans as the principal reason for joining the Azzurri.

“I preferred Napoli to Inter because of the support shown by the fans and the general public,” Cavani said to TuttoNapoli.net.

“It is also bonus to work with [Ezequiel] Lavezzi and [Fabio] Quagliarella. We will form a great attacking line-up,” he added.

The 23-year-old moved from Palermo to the Azzurri for €17 million.
