Napoli are up to the second place in the Italian league after a win over Genoa. With Lavezzi out with an ankle injury and Serie A’s player strike called off on Thursday, Slovakia playmaker Hamsik met a Walter Gargano free-kick on 26 minutes in a match that, while initially controlled by Napoli, finished with the hosts - who missed half a dozen good chances to draw level - dominating play.
Napoli are interested in a move for Liverpool youngster in the January transfer window. The Manchester-born striker, 19, came on in the 65th minute against Napoli in the Europa League earlier this season and the Serie A high-flyers are now interested in signing him.
According to reports in Italy, Napoli have made contact with Liverpool through Eccleston's agent and it is now up to manager Roy Hodgson to decide.
Napoli striker Cristiano Lucarelli is injured and will be out until the new year. The 34-year-old, who joined the Campania based club on a season-long loan deal from Parma this summer, will undergo surgery on Monday.
The former Italy international was hurt late on in Thursday's goalless draw against Dutch outfit Utrecht in the Europa League Group K opener after coming on as a substitute. Napoli have not yet revealed for how long the journeyman player will be sidelined, although he is unlikely to play again in 2010.
Bayern Munich's Sosa has been signed by Italian club Napoli. "Sosa is going to continue his career at the foot of Vesuvius," Bayern Munich confirmed in a statement.
Sosa won Olympic gold with Argentina in 2008, a year after joining Bayern, with whom he had one year of his contract remaining.
In three seasons in the Bundesliga he has competed in 35 games, scoring three goals.
At Napoli Sosa can look forward to taking part in the Europa League where the Italian team's group rivals are Liverpool, Steaua Bucharest and Utrecht.
New Napoli signing Edinson Cavani has revealed how he had turned down an offer to join Inter Milan to join Napoli. The Uruguay international credits the fans as the principal reason for joining the Azzurri.
"I preferred Napoli to Inter because of the support shown by the fans and the general public," Cavani said to TuttoNapoli.net.
"It is also bonus to work with [Ezequiel] Lavezzi and [Fabio] Quagliarella. We will form a great attacking line-up," he added.
The 23-year-old moved from Palermo to the Azzurri for €17 million.
Napoli chief Riccardo Bigon has confirmed their interest in Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni.
Toni spent last season on-loan at Roma.
“You cannot contest Toni’s talent, while Fred played in the Champions League with Lyon and is now in Brazil,” Bigon told Radio Marte.
“We are following many options, including overseas, and keeping a close eye on alternatives. Before buying anyone, we will sell.
“Vagner Love has different characteristics to Toni and Fred, so it would change our style of football. The type of player we’re looking for is a pure hitman.”

TSG Hoffenheim midfielder Franco Zuculini is wanted by Napoli.
The young Argentine has failed to settle in Germany, but that hasn't put off Napoli, where sports director Riccardo Bigon has opened talks about bringing the midfield schemer to Italy this summer.
Zuculini's agent Dario Decoud confirmed: "Yes, the interest of Napoli is real. Ten days ago I spoke with Bigon, today or tomorrow I should be contacted to find out what they've decided.
