The Napoli manager Walter Mazzarri refused to concentrate on the league table as of now despite Napoli moving level on points with the leaders Juventus at the top of the table. It was only a few weeks ago that Napoli were 10 points behind the current champions after a string of poor results and points deduction.

However, the points deduction has been turned over and a run of poor form for Juventus has meant that Napoli have closed the gap completely. They remain second in the table only on goal difference after this weekend's round of fixtures.

Yet, the manager Mazzarri refused to get carried away with this because there is still a lot of work to be done. The 2-0 win over Catania during the weekend helped Napoli move level on points with Juventus, although the champions do have a game in hand. Juventus, though, have been unconvincing in recent weeks. They have managed to win just one match in the last four, but the arrival of the former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka will add strength to the team. They will be facing Chievo during the weekend. Marek Hamsik opened the scoring for Napoli in the 31st minute, while Cannavaro doubled the advantage in 44th minute.

"We should have killed proceedings off with another goal. We did well not to panic under pressure, but still need to mature in such aspects. Nowadays, strikers have to help out by winning the ball back at the front for a team to win. I cannot simply change our philosophy by merely looking at the table. We need to remember every game is a battle. Our results are derived from them, and we cannot afford to become distracted," said the Napoli manager. Napoli will be facing archrivals Lazio next weekend in a top of the table clash.
