Napoli Are Far from Perfect, Warns Sarri

Napoli have been one of the best teams in the Italian Serie A by a significant margin.

Since suffering the 2-1 loss against Juventus in October, the team are undefeated in all competitions – a run that now stretches to 17 games. Napoli secured a 7-1 win over Bologna during the weekend to move ahead of Roma in the second spot. Now, they have established a one-point advantage over Roma and five points over Lazio. Even though the capital club can reclaim the second spot if they win the game in hand, it has been an astonishing turnaround of form from Maurizio Sarri’s team.

Maurizio Sarri, however, has tried to keep the club grounded by saying that Napoli are far from being perfect. Even though on the club are unbeaten since October, they have dropped some crucial points along the way. Draws against the likes of Lazio, Sassuolo, Fiorentina, and Palermo have been hugely damaging the team. This kind of good form is essential for the team going up to the game against Roma in the middle of March.

The 7-1 win over Bologna was far from perfect given that Napoli striker José Callejón was given a straight red card and will miss the next couple of matches due to suspension.Sarri is aware that he will have to make some changes in order to accommodate the team.

“We have scored many goals, yes, but in the last 12 games it’s 10 wins and two draws. This is why we have to focus only on what we do and ignore the other results. After a game like this I feel a little angry, as we created perhaps fewer scoring opportunities tonight than against Palermo, but then we scored one and tonight seven. We had the right attitude and controlled the situation well during difficult moments,” said Sarri.
