MAZZARRI STEPS DOWN

As feared by many Napoli fans, manager Walter Mazzarri has announced that he will be stepping down from the post at the end of the season. Mazzarri has been one of the greatest managers for Napoli in recent decades, as he has been able to get the club back to the top of the table and also into European elite cup competitions as well.

However, he has been strongly linked with the two Milan clubs in the last few months. After spending four years with the club, Mazzarri has said that he will leave the club at the end of the season.

His final match as the Napoli manager was against Roma. Napoli were defeated 2-1 in the match. He said after the encounter that he has taken the club as far as he can and he is now looking for a new challenge. There has also been speculation surrounding star striker Edinson Cavani, who continues to be linked with Chelsea and Manchester City. Mazzarri could also consider taking Cavani with him when he signed for either of the Milan clubs in the next few months. It is most likely to be Inter Milan after they finished in the ninth position under young manager Andrea Stramaccioni.

"My cycle at Napoli has ended. They have been four fantastic years, I want to thank the lads and everyone who has been close to me. Napoli are a great club to work at and I'm leaving because I need a new challenge and so do the players. I took this decision a while ago. I think I've brought Napoli as far as they can go, and I think this is the right time to leave," said Mazzarri. The team were in with a shout of winning the league title this season, but it ultimately faltered in the last few months.
