Napoli

It has been heavily rumoured that Napoli are in advanced discussions with former Sampdoria coach Sinisa Mihajlovic over the vacant managerial job at the club.

Napoli are without a manager after Rafa Benitez left the club for Real Madrid after the final game of the campaign. A loss against Lazio meant that Napoli will be without Champions League football for next season. A regime that started so well with the Coppa Italia in his first season came to a bitter conclusion after just two years. Napoli will now be hoping to reclaim the glory days achieved primarily under Walter Mazzarri.

Penalties helped Napoli win against Juventus

Napoli managed to defeat Juventus on penalties and win the Super Cup. This was their first success in the competition since 1990 and Rafa Benitez failed this victory over Juventus as the best moment of 2014.

Napoli came back from death twice in the match. Carlos Tevez gave the lead after just five minutes before Gonzalo Higuain equalised in the 68th minute. Just when it seemed that Tevez had provided enough to seal victory after a goal in extra time, Higuain stepped up once again to secure an equaliser – for the second time in the match – in the 118th minute.

Cabral Expected To Retake Top Spot

Napoli goalkeeper Rafael Cabral is once again expected to become the number one goalkeeper at the club after the departure of Pepe Reina. The Liverpool goalkeeper has returned to his parent club after a season long loan deal with the Italian outfit came to an end. Throughout the season, Reina was the first choice when it came to league matches while the 24-year-old, Cabral, was used as the cup goalkeeper. However, Cabral’s season suffered a turn for the worst after he was ruled out for four months with a broken leg.

Carragher Believes Tottenham Should Appoint Benitez

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has stated that Tottenham should consider appointing former Liverpool and Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez, who he thinks will be a great appointment for the club given that he has incredible experience of the Premier league. Benitez is currently managing Italian outfit Napoli, but the first season at his new club does not seem to have gone according to plan. As a result, there have been suggestions that he may leave the club in the summer. He has also expressed interest in the Tottenham job in the past.

WILLIAMS FOR NAPOLI

Napoli manager Rafa Benitez is reportedly looking at signing Swansea city defender Ashley Williams in the summer and the agent of the player has done little to quash the rumours.

Napoli have been one of the big spenders in the summer after splashing out more than £ 70 million on several new signings. Despite the spending, Napoli have been unable to make any sufficient improvements compared to last season when they were managed by Walter Mazzarri. Benitez, however, seems to have convinced the Napoli board that he needs more money to improve the team.

MASCHERANO NEXT?

Javier Mascherano of Barcelona is a player that has aroused suspicion of leaving his current club in Spain with the possibility of joining his countryman Gonzalo Higuain in Napoli and working once more with Rafael Benitez as they both worked together in Liverpool some years ago.

Higuain describes Mascherano as a "warrior" and the forward is confident that the fans in Italy will be happy to see him joining Napoli.

"We know it is hard to move in January but the director Bigon is doing everything possible," the ex-Real Madrid player told Radio Kiss Kiss’’.

NAPOLI TOP TEAM

Napoli have been the best team in the Italian Serie A along with Roma after they have taken victories from all the matches they have played in the league.

Despite this, manager Rafa Benitez has said that he is not completely happy with the defensive side of things. Napoli have kept a clean sheet in two out of the three matches they have played. This is seen as a great improvement given that the team has switched formation from the three-man defence used by former manager Walter Mazzarri to a 4-2-3-1 formation.

MAZZARRI STEPS DOWN

As feared by many Napoli fans, manager Walter Mazzarri has announced that he will be stepping down from the post at the end of the season. Mazzarri has been one of the greatest managers for Napoli in recent decades, as he has been able to get the club back to the top of the table and also into European elite cup competitions as well.

However, he has been strongly linked with the two Milan clubs in the last few months. After spending four years with the club, Mazzarri has said that he will leave the club at the end of the season.
