SarriWatches Napoli Suffer Third Consecutive Defeat

Napoli suffered a third consecutive defeat in all competitions and manager Sarri admitted that the club are making life difficult for themselves.

After an excellent start to the league campaign that saw them go toe-to-toe with Juventus in the last few games, a shock loss against Atalanta has seen results plummet since then. A 1-0 defeat against Atalanta would have been forgiven as a freak result, but Napoli showed signs of a much bigger hurt inside. The team lost 3-1 to Roma during the weekend and they followed this up with a shock 3-2 loss against Besiktas in the Champions League.

5 transfer targets for Napoli this summer

Napoli had a tough end to the season as they fell short of Juventus in the final furlongs. This summer they will have to retain their main men, as Gonzalo Higuain, Kalidou Koulibaly and Elseid Hysaj have all been linked with moves away. Whilst the Partenopei have been linked with players, the selection may surprise some as they are not all household names.

Pitor Ziellinski: Napoli President, Aurelio De Laurentiis has already claimed that he has reached an agreement with Udinese for their Polish attacking midfielder. According to Premium Sport, the 22-year old will cost 15 million Euro but while the club have agreed a fee it is rumoured that the player himself is holding out to see if any more offers come in.

HIGUAIN PREFERS LIVERPOOL

Napoli top rated talent Gonzalo Higuain says he favours the move to Liverpool than the host of other options at his disposal. The striker who is 28 years old is in great form at the Serie A helping the club to the second spot in the league after scoring a record 36 goals in 35 appearances.

The player says he favours a move to Anfield over any of the alternatives he has. His excellent goal scoring abilities is required by many top clubs including Arsenal and Manchester United.

The player has always been linked to English teams but the move has always been thwarted by one thing or the other. He has also being linked to the Bundesliga, with the spielautomaten website reporting news of a bid that have since been down-played by Carlo Ancelotti.

Napoli is currently positioned in the 2nd spot of the Italian League, Serie A and there is only 1 more league match remaining before the 2015-16 season can be officially completed.

There is no chance for Napoli to win the Serie A title as Juventus was already crowned as the champions of Italy a few weeks ago and now the main task of Napoli is to secure a Champions League spot that will allow the Italian club to compete in the European competition for the upcoming season.

As a way to motivate Maurizio Sarri as his players even further for them to seal a Champions League position, the president of the club Aurelio De Laurentiis stated that he will be injecting the club with cash that can help them in signing top players during the summer transfer window.

SARRI CURSES HIS LUCK

Maurizio Sarri believes Napoli were unlucky to fail to win against Milan. Napoli would have topped the Italian Premier Division table if that Milan game had earned them full 3 points, but Milan held them on 1-1, letting them get just one point and ensuring there is no change in the top two positions in the table.

It was only the previous week that Napoli had lost their top spot when they had been downed by Juventus by 0-1 in the head to head clash in Turin.

Are Napoli on their way to the Serie A title?

Napoli haven't won the Serie A crown since 1990 but stand an excellent chance of going all the way and claiming a third Italian title this season. Maurizio Sarri's men are joint-second in the table and sit just four points behind current leaders Inter Milan.

While they are without a win in their last two games, Napoli have shown plenty of courage, quality and enthusiasm throughout the early stages of the campaign and will be quietly confident of picking up a much-needed victory at Atlanta on Sunday before the winter break. If they can maintain this form throughout the second half of the season, Napoli could pip their rivals to the title.

Crucially, Napoli have performed well against their nearest competitors this season - which could come in handy towards the business end of the campaign. In fact, there are only two teams who have picked up all three points against Napoli so far this term - Sassuolo and Bologna.
