WILLIAMS FOR NAPOLI

Napoli manager Rafa Benitez is reportedly looking at signing Swansea city defender Ashley Williams in the summer and the agent of the player has done little to quash the rumours.

Napoli have been one of the big spenders in the summer after splashing out more than £ 70 million on several new signings. Despite the spending, Napoli have been unable to make any sufficient improvements compared to last season when they were managed by Walter Mazzarri. Benitez, however, seems to have convinced the Napoli board that he needs more money to improve the team.

They could sanction an offer for Ashley Williams, who was monitored by Arsenal only recently. However, after a disappointing campaign with Swansea, his valuation in the transfer market will have gone down considerably. This would make him an attractive buy for the Italian outfit, who are fighting with Roma to finish second in the table and qualify automatically for the Champions League. They were knocked out of Europe’s Premier competition at the group stages itself. They are now involved in the latter stages of the Europa league.

Incidentally, Benitez suffered the same fate last season at Chelsea, but he guided them to Europa league success nonetheless. Williams’ agent says that his client would be flattered to be of interest to Napoli and Benitez.
"There has been talk of meetings with the club or with Rafa Benitez, but there's no truth in that at the moment.

Clearly we are talking about a great club with an international level manager, so we are ready to talk to Napoli if a call were to come. However, until the possibility becomes concrete, there's no point talking about it,” said the player’s agent in an interview to an Italian tabloid. Williams has made 30 appearances in the league and scored one goal this season.
